Director of Engineering

Director of Engineering is responsible for the Process Engineering and Project Engineering groups. This requires identifying and managing resources and projects to support the manufacturing process, expansion projects involving building and manufacturing line construction, and development of new technologies and equipment to improve output, efficiency, and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees management of the Process Engineering and Project Engineering Groups
  • Oversees process engineering data analysis, troubleshooting, and manufacturing support activities
  • Directs appropriate engineering support for manufacturing, quality, and R&D functions within the organization
  • Works with the manufacturing, quality, and R&D departments to review and monitor quality and process improvements
  • Develops, determines, and implements policies, procedures, and programs
  • Works with scale up groups for development of new products and methods
  • Stay current on new manufacturing technologies and processes
  • Designs and manages experiments, model, and/or prototype to minimize project risks and costs
  • Management of projects from opportunity through implementation
  • Recommendation of budgets to Senior Leadership, including staff use, technology, facility and equipment requirements or improvements
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors for equipment, labor, or research projects
  • Review, approve, and submit proposals to management for consideration and manage project funding
  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones
  • Overseeing the timelines and budgets of capital projects
  • Manages hiring for the department

Qualifications:

  • 15 years+ years in an engineering management role in a manufacturing environment
  • B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical field
  • Strong desire for an individual with exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to lead a diverse group of professionals is a must
  • Experience in statistical process control and experiment design
  • Ability to travel (nationally and internationally as necessary)
  • Ability to read and understand technical prints
  • Professional knowledge of process and project engineering concepts, practices, and principles
  • Familiarity with EHS and quality (ISO) requirements and risk assessment
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and run multiple projects
  • Experience in lean manufacturing practices/tools
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain project related financial data
  • Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures
