Operations Manager

This Operations Manager is responsible for all activities that occur within the manufacturing facility in support of the Plant Manager. The Operations Manager provides leadership for and develops abilities of the management team to achieve consistent production of high-quality products and deliver financial profitability for the bakery.


  • Responsible for directing, coordinating, and managing all production activities of a 24-hour operation
  • Oversee manufacturing operations for a commercial baking facility consisting of hourly and salary associates and management staff
  • Lead the achievement of a zero-injury workplace. Ensure compliance with FDA, EPA, OSHA, and FISMA regulation
  • Build a culture of mutual respect, teamwork, and professionalism, demonstrating active support of the Company values and policies
  • Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan
  • Coordinates employee training for the Operations department
  • Facilitates Company Mentorship program
  • Coordinates scheduled production to attain and adhere and to the plan
  • Manages the development of leader standard work for the Operations team to meet the plant metrics
  • Maintains records for all phases of production relative to the quality of the product, including bakery formulation records, and those records necessary for auditing purposes to include order completion and scheduling of holiday production.
  • Performs other required tasks as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Food Science, or a technical field a plus. A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in the food industry
  • Minimum of 4 years of direct supervisory experience
  • Strong business acumen and working knowledge of process control and improvement tools
  • Participative management style and excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of the operations of all bakery departments: production, quality, food safety, maintenance, and materials management
  • Demonstrated track record of leading the improvement of operations while delivering day to day performance
  • Ability to analyze data using various operating systems and programs
  • Demonstrated experience building a strong leadership team
  • Continuous Improvement methodology mindset for achieving company goals
  • Ability to work closely in a team-based environment with associates at all levels in the organization
  • Knowledge of safety related issues including compliance with State, Federal and Local regulations
  • Mental and visual ability to identify various products and read instructions, gauges, scales, thermometers, etc.
