Engineering Manager

This privately held injection molding plastic manufacturer is on the hunt for an Engineering Manager. This company can provide a role that provides work life balance at a facility that operates from Monday to Friday with 8-hour shifts. They put a high emphasis on ethics of their employees and are looking for career driven professionals that put a high value on doing what is right for their team, company, and their customers. They are a growing company with 3 sites, the most recent being a new plant in KY. But they have a rural/family feel to their facility while still being able to support major OEMs.

The basic function of the position of Engineering Manager is to provide direction and coordination of all engineering activities to obtain optimum efficiency and effectiveness of operations and maximize profits.



  • Required: Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering preferred)


  • Required: 5 years Project Leader or Project Manager and Engineering Design
  • Preferred: 5 – 10 years in automotive plastic injection molding or related plastics field


  • Computer Software: CAD Administrative Program (Unigraphics preferred)
  • General Supervision
  • Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of TS16949 standards that apply to engineering processes and reporting
  • Ability to incorporate design for manufacturability and cost reduction initiatives
  • Mathematics: This position requires excellent math skills and accuracy to include cost-benefit analysis, budgets and other associated areas.
  • This position requires a team oriented approach to interface with internal and external customers; the ability to communicate with and maintain interpersonal skills with all members of the organization.


  • The Engineering Manager reports directly to and is accountable to the President. The Engineering Manager will have no secondary reporting relationships.
  • The following functions and/or positions directly report to and are accountable to the Engineering Manager:
    • Project Engineers/Engineering Coordinator
    • Cost Estimating Project Engineer

The Engineering Manager has the authority to recommend hiring, terminating or changes in compensation and/or duties of the individuals in the positions reporting directly to the position, provided these actions fall within established company guidelines.



  • Development of planning efforts that meet company strategic goals
  • Participate in annual strategic management planning process to include providing input to engineering portions of the plan
  • Participate as a member of the Management Review team; communicate outcomes to sublevels when needed; carry out actions as needed
  • Continuous Improvement objectives should be met and reported


  • Project Management -Timing Plans; Monitor projects to ensure customer deadlines are met; P.A.N.s
  • APQP Leadership – Team organization, project kickoffs
  • Documentation Control of Engineering Records
  • Tooling/mold sources – Maintain sourcing list; cost comparisons; tool requisitions; mold design/rebuild
  • Job Costing to include automation, packaging, auxiliary equipment
  • Incorporate design for manufacturability and cost reduction initiatives

Facilities/Tool Management (Maintenance Records)-

  • Analyze needs and implementation of systems for the following:
    • Preventative/Predictive Maintenance schedules
    • Tooling storage and retrieval
    • Control of customer supplied/owned molds, tools, equipment


  • Train, develop and mentor Project Engineers in APQP processes and project development procedures
  • Assess training needs of engineering personnel and provide HR with suggestions and/or assistance in making provisions for completion of the training
  • Complete performance evaluations of Project Engineers/Engineering Coordinator
  • Participate in job related training, in-house training, and position certifications


  • Actively support company and OSHA safety requirements as well as manage subordinates in conjunction with the requirements


  • The Engineering Manager will be considered as performing in a satisfactory manner when the following are accomplished:
    • When the above responsibilities and duties are accomplished in a timely and effective manner
    • The output of the position is accomplished in accordance with customer requirements
    • Compliance with all safety and regulatory issues are met with no major safety violations
    • Maintain personal certifications to include professional certifications and maintain that all assigned personnel remain certified in all duties and responsibilities
    • TS16949 standards, processes, or duties assigned are performed as defined within company TS16949 program parameters
