EHS Manager

My client is looking for a safety professional looking to work for a fast growing dynamic multi-cultural organization.  Bi-Lingual with at least 5 years hands-on safety management experience is desired. 

The Site EHS Manager must be an experienced technical professional in the safety and/or environmental management field, with a history of success in implementing processes at a large production/manufacturing site. This role will include the prevention of serious incidents through high-risk activity management processes, emergency response planning, safety in operations, and contractor safety. This role will be responsible for monitoring risks, trending of leading/lagging metrics and develops reports and metrics that will be used to drive accountability and action.

The Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will:

  • Monitor, interpret and communicate summaries of standards and regulatory requirements to assure compliance and proactive management of risk.
  • Establishes safety and health mitigation goals and develops metrics, dashboards and/or scorecards to track/communicate/drive progress.  
  • Analyses safety metrics and communicates results to leadership to drive action and accountability.
  • Work and communicate effectively with leaders, staff, and contractors at all levels to implement practical solutions and motivating them to be effective safety leaders
  • Drive a standardized and harmonized approach across all departments to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.  
  • Present topical information/metrics on a regular basis to site leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Site, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager you will have the opportunity to positively influence the Operations Team supporting all areas of production, quality, warehouse, maintenance and sanitation services within SCN. You will be responsible for providing EHS Program implementation services and leadership, by:

  • Serving as the primary contact for the implementation of the EHS programs 
  • Being accountable for EHS performance metrics and implementation of annual improvement plans.
  • Periodically inspecting, auditing and reviewing safe work practices to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct workplace risk/exposure assessments for various classes of hazards.
  • Supporting incident investigations and root cause analysis, so that corrective and preventive actions can be identified, communicated globally and implemented.
  • Conducting/delivering regulatory training programs to meet EHS requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of progressive and hands-on experience in EHS is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and web-based software applications.  Must have the ability to use the Internet as a research tool and flexible when using Internet-based tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A University/Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or a related in science/engineering discipline, or equivalent direct manufacturing experience. Certified First Aid/CPR Trainer status preferred
  • Must have current working knowledge of U.S Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and CAL/OSHA regulations and standards and other non-regulatory safety standards applicable to the location.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment preventing injuries, developing/implementing robust processes and management systems, and in building productive collaborative relationships with internal/external business partners.   Experience managing Environment, Health, and Safety in large manufacturing sites is a plus.   
  • The successful candidate will be a strong communicator & influencer who is credible, self-assured and highly capable of negotiating successful outcomes with key business leaders. She/he will have strong technical skills and the ability to explain complex issues and requirements in an easily understood manner. She/he will apply previous learning and ideas to new situations, projects, and teams, developing creative solutions to manage risk. She/he will demonstrate strong business acumen that includes experience working with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent demonstrated project management skills are required, including the ability to lead teams, produce and maintain timelines, create dashboards and track metrics, and assemble project information into clearly written reports that document findings, actions, and progress.

In addition, you must possess the following technical qualifications:

  • Clear understanding and ability to review existing safety programs to assess compliance and functional effectiveness; and responding effectively to employee safety problems or concerns.
  • Ability to develop systematic plans of action to reduce risk potential based on exposures and loss analysis. 
  • Ability to develop and implement a behavior-based safety program

Additional key requirements include:

  • Reviews documentation to ensure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures
  • Reinforces safety awareness in a manner that promotes cooperation and improved morale
  • Conducts work area inspections (JSA’s and JHA’s) and assists in all accident/injury/property damage investigations
  • Document and track all accidents/incidents
  • Assists in providing safety-related job orientation to employees
  • Responsible for OSHA 300 log and required mandated postings
  • Responsible for coordinating claims reporting and will work with the insurance carrier claims department to ensure timely and accurate claims management
  • Will coordinate claims reviews with insurer as appropriate and will implement the company return to work program
